The purpose of any type of communication is always to exchange information and in order to achieve effectiveness of this communication we must be able to clearly convey our message. We do so by articulating our thoughts and opinions into words. Mastering the art of conversation and speaking properly is a long term benefit so when we lack those vital skills we create conflicts and misunderstandings among our peers.
One of the best way to communicate is to focus on tailoring our point of view to improve our opponent’s comprehension. It is not a simple desire to get our point across but a thorough explanation to help better grasp our underlying principles. Being knowledgeable in our goal to persuade is important but it is equally as important to take other’s perspective into consideration. In other words, is what we are saying mindful and compassionate enough to bring mutual respect?
We should also be open minded and listen to others. We don’t learn from what we have to say, we learn from what others have to say. So although we all have our own experiences, ideas or opinions, we should also expose ourselves to others experiences and opinions. That is what broaden our horizon, we simply do this by closing our mouth and opening our ears and our mind.
When we open ourselves up to refine how we communicate with others we reach the ultimate level to better relationships, mutual understanding and corporative attitude.
